AVRA hires 7D drivers and ride monitors for split-shift school routes out of Quincy. Weekly pay, paid training, and the same four or five students every morning. No 7D certificate yet? We pay for it.

Two roles, both on school-day split shifts. Both start with a paid training week at the yard.
7D driver
You drive an assigned van on a fixed route with a monitor when the route calls for one. The van goes home with you between runs.
- 21 or older
- Massachusetts driver's license held for 3 or more years
- Clean driving record
- CORI and SORI background checks
- DOT physical and drug test
- 7D certificate, or we pay for you to get one
Ride monitor
You ride in the van, help students on and off, handle seat belts, harnesses, and wheelchair tie-downs, and keep the ride calm. You work with the same students every day.
- 18 or older
- CORI and SORI background checks
- CPR and first aid, training provided
- Patience, and steady with children who have hard mornings
- Comfortable following a behavior plan from an IEP
- No driver's license required
What a driver's day looks like
Two runs, a long break in the middle, and the van parked in your driveway between them.
- Pre-trip check at the Quincy yardOr at home once your van is assigned. Lights, lift, tie-downs, fuel, logged on the tablet.
- Dispatch confirms your routeAny overnight changes are already on your screen. Questions get answered on the radio.
- First pickupSame students, same order, same seats. Your monitor meets each student at the door.
- Van goes home with youMorning run done. Fuel and maintenance are on us. The middle of the day is yours.
- Afternoon runPick up at the program, drop off at home, students handed to an adult when the IEP requires it.
- Post-trip log at homeTwo minutes on the tablet. Then you are done until tomorrow.

How to get your 7D certificate
Five steps, about three weeks start to finish. AVRA covers the fees and pays you for the training hours.
- Apply at the RMV
Fill in the 7D application on mass.gov. We walk you through it on your first day and pay the application fee.
- CORI and SORI checks
Background checks run by the RMV and by AVRA. Most come back within a week.
- Physical
A DOT physical at a clinic we work with in Quincy. Paid by AVRA, scheduled around your day.
- Road test in our van
The RMV examiner tests you in an AVRA van you have already practiced in. We book the appointment.
- AVRA training week
Five paid days at the yard: ride-alongs, lift and tie-down practice, CPR and first aid, the tablet, and the radio. Then you get your route.
